Cheap hop spider

Post by sbond10 » Sun May 29, 2016 4:24 pm

Whilst looking thru ebay I noticed this

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/301953880886

Doesn't tell ypu the grade of stainless. Might be worth a punt.

My pan is 50cm high so I'd need to make it taller some how

That is an excellent price, usually the p&p is more than that.

Demig just had one of these delivered from aliexpress, apparently a bit flimsy but we will know how well it works next Sunday. I just bought an extortionately expensive BAC one for the Braumeister and it is beautifully made but it will be interesting to compare the two and how much if any they stifle the boil inside and ease of cleaning.

Abit flimsy I can deal with as it will only get about 20g of hops in there

As for making it taller I was thinking of just hanging it with s/s wire

Just looking at the pics, the, last one, shows the dimensions
35cm deep with the handle being ~10cm so nearly the 50cm you wanted.

ive ordered the very same one, although from a different seller at a little bit more cost , just to give pellets a try really but if it works well enough ill probably buy a 'proper' one for all my brewing.

Cheers hairy biker I took the 35cm as total height I think I was slightly tipsy at the time.

Think I'll Deffo be ordering one or 2 look much easier to clean.

Very interested to hear how these perform in a brew: if they work well they are cheap enough to buy a pair and spread the hops out!

The ebay listing gives the mesh size as both '300 mesh' and '300 microns'. These are different amounts, right? :?

Should be fine for you as the handle is long. It was very crushed when it arrived but it's flimsy to bend back into shape. Will find out how it works on Sunday and report back!

as a hop spider fan boy i find little/no difference in hop utilisation but i do recirculate the boil back into the hopspider.. fwiw i pad £40 for a similar though much more robust SS mesh if i had seen this i think it would have been fine instead ;) good find..
