The 25L Co2 Injected JerryKeg is Born! Cheap too!
Gents,
I've been thinking about this idea now for ages. Turning a 25L Jerrycan into a fully functional Co2 injected keg at low cost. I'm happy to say I've succeeded!
Take a standard 25L Jerrycan: £7.48 delivered - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1x-New-25L-25 ... 51a8b74d0e
Add a tap: £4.25 delivered - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Plastic-T ... 1c2ffab1de
Drill a hole through the lid and attach a rubber tyre valve: £1.25 delivered - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-TR414-RUB ... 3373dd5fd1
Attach a screw on Co2 tyre inflator with 16g Co2 canister attached: £8.89 delivered - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140827604903? ... 1423.l2649
And you've got yourself a JerryKeg for £21.87! A lot cheaper than this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-Gallon-25L- ... 3f18b03cbc
Simply screw the injector valve slowly to release Co2 into the keg. Keg holds up to around 6psi comfortably. Mine is reading 9 at the min but I think there's something up with my reader.
I've only started using this so am unsure how long a 16g bulb lasts etc. My plan is to prime with 30g and leave for a week. Can usually get through between 1/4 and 1/3 of the keg before I have to open the cap to let air in. Not any more!
I'll update here as I use it more. Either way... a f*cking bargain Co2 injected keg whatever way you look at it!
Let me know what you think.

Bit of a pain to be honest. 2 people make it much easier. Have fitted 3 now so am much quicker. I have a stick which I insert into the Jerrycan to hold the nut then kinda screw the tap in if that makes sense. It's pretty manageable. I do advise a second person though.

Well done on that project and the pictures are great too. A little bit of StarSan around the air valve will let you know quickly if you've a leak there.
Cheers

In response to your response here viewtopic.php?f=6&t=52281 about these bulbs being food grade, the truth is, I'm not sure. However, I can't imagine them not being so... how could they not be?
This 'How It's Made' vid shows the process. Pretty sterile process...

These are stated as food grade http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-16-gram-CO2-c ... 0849265770

It's all to do with how they collect the CO2. Every time you open a fizzy drink there is a tiny invisible person who collects the puff of CO2 and stores it in a magic bottle and then fills up the food grade cartridges. There is a similar process that happens every time Jeremy Clarkson opens his mouth to give an opinion. That is why you find so many that aren't listed as food grade.floydmeddler wrote:These are stated as food grade http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-16-gram-CO2-c ... 0849265770

It isn't really. Fitting the tap can be a bit of a ball ache but with two people it's fine. 15-20 min job.

Have you found any threaded 16g bulbs that specifically state 'not food grade'? Couldn't see any...Underground Joe wrote:...That is why you find so many that aren't listed as food grade.floydmeddler wrote:These are stated as food grade http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-16-gram-CO2-c ... 0849265770

Have emailed a few Ebay buyers so we'll see what they say. Similar looking bulbs in the US (Amazon and Ebay) state 'food grade'.

£8.99 of the price is for CO2 dispenser thingy which could be used across a number of kegs. Also you can just give your keg a little squirt of gas rather than use a whole CO2 cartridge.Befuddler wrote:Pressure barrels are 20 quid from wilko...
