With the best will in the world you're likely to have the odd spill / overflow so if you haven't already you might want to varnish the plywood shelves or cover them with something so that its possible to wipe them clean.

The inside of a FV fridge is perfect environment for molds etc to grow, especially if there is any old wort dried into a porous wooden surface.

I got pigged off cleaning up after some yeasts so I made an aluminium cover for FF shelf out of an old litho-printing plate. (I used to work in the print)
It can be seen in pic below.
Its much easier to take out and clean this with a hose / starsan.

Good tip jmc, I'll do that as soon as these 2 brews are fermented.

just snared a freezer on ebay and i am now looking to buy a controller for it.

Pinto, can you advise if you got the enclosure for the controller when you bought it?

Darkonnis, sorry to be a total noob, bit could you post a photo of your sensor/sponge/tape set up?

cheers all.

Hi,

The enclosure needs to be purchased seperately - mine is an IP44 adaptable box and uses 3 male cable glands for cable access. you,ll need to cut and drill the box accordingly

Pinto,

can you advise the dimensions of your box?

I blu-tack the probe in a bottle full of water to get a stable temperature readout from my fridge. Cheap and simple and avoids any chance of contamination.

@chivelegs - do you find that this 'follows' the fv closely?

top of my head, 100x100x150. The stc unit needs a minimum mounting depth of 80mm and the little extra makes wiring it up more pleasent

Close enough for jazz. I don't really let 1 degree here or there bother me, but if you do, clean, sanitise, put in fv clean again, sanitise again etc.....
