Dial thermometer on a cool box mash tun?

This could be a stoopid question - I've never seen any pics of one … I was wondering about fitting a dial thermometer through the side of my MT and sealing around the hole on both sides with food grade silicone sealer.

This sealer looks the part

Has anyone done this - anyone think its a bad idea?

When sealing be sure to roughen the edges to be sealed, prior to applying the sealant, otherwise they may not bond

There is the problem of the cool box wall thickness to get around though. So I wonder if it would be OK if it was 'seated' in sealant as well, since the gland thread won't reach all the way through? Sound OK?

Hey daab theat looks good - unfortunately that link doesnt work and when looking at the main site cant find compression fittings. How much was the one you have - my probe is 3.5mm I think but would get exact measurement if prices are good.

hi daab i got my self one of those fittings from ebay just need the nut for the other side,do you no where to get one tride all around where i live and also the bloke on ebay i got the 4mm compression from and no use its a funny thread?
