Hop Strainer & MT False Bottom

Post by rick_huggins » Sun Jun 07, 2009 10:00 am

Guys,

I've found a stainless steel supplier and am thinking about modifying my current set up to s/steel.

Ideally, what size diameter perforations/separations would be ideal for a hop strainer and also a false bottom for my mash tun?

Cheers

Rick

I think 2mm dia holes for the mash tun are ideal, no larger, but you could go smaller. You could go a lot smaller for the hop filter so long as there are enough holes, mesh seems to be ideal for this, many people here use a mesh 'hop-stopper'. I will be using one of these when I get round to making a mesh purchase. If you're using hop pellets you will need a finer grade to seperate the hop trub.

What sort of price can you get on perforated stainless? It can be very expensive.
A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

I'm currently using a frying pan splatter guard with tank connector set up but it's too light and floats up on the boil.

I also got a stainless plate from a camping shop which I'm having a play around with

Thanks guys

Rick
