Size of holes for false bottom mash tun

The smallest drill bit I seem to have is 3mm, is that too large to use for drilling holes for a false bottom?

I asked the same question a while back and apparently its 2mm for MT and 3mm for Hop Strainer.

Why not use 2mm for both?
The smaller the better surely (hence why a lot of people use mesh for hop strainer)?

I hope to have all my holes drilled shortly, don't want to have to do them all again in the next size up!!

Some report 2mm on a hop strainer will often block.
Mesh, due to its very low surface area makes a good blocker especially when re-circulating a few pints first. But can be fiddly to make.
3mm is tried and tested. And is easy to make.
