JUST MADE MY NEW IMMERSION CHILLER

Post by trucker5774 » Wed Jul 01, 2009 4:21 pm

Nothing new here for most members  Thought I would put a few photos up for anyone who is starting off All Grain brewing and is being put off by how expensive or hard to make some of the gear is. This is made by winding the 10 meters of 10mm copper tube around an old gas cylinder (just what I had). You may be able to see I have soldered it to give rigidity. The whole thing cost about £11.00 and 40 mins work..............get on with it new comers!!

Looking good :)
Might I ask where you bought your copper pipe from?

The copper pipe is from the local plumbers merchant in Ormskirk, West Lancs. I deal with a company called Jackson's. Others in the area are about the same price (£1.00 per meter plus or minus 10p) The small bracing piece is a short bit I had lying around(just happened to be 8mm) I kept the cold supply tail on the inside just to give a neat finish. The stubs are 15mm to 10mm end-feed reducers. Garden hose connectors can, of course, be added or jubilee clips will do the job.

I used the chiller for the first time yesterday :D It was pretty efficient. The wort temperature dropped to 24C in in just about 25 mins. Considering the weather and the temperature of the mains water, I reckon that is not bad :=P
