Ah, I see. OTOH it would make a good video for YouTube with water gushing every which waypdtnc wrote:Oh I'm going to solder all the fittings, I was talking about holding the two feed pipes together with cable ties I dare say the action of trying to fill an unsoldered thing would be a bit of a cannon action with the air and water in it

Re: My funky Home made Immersion Cooler
As for how do you get the water out............................heat and split the soldered joints, remove the 15mm add ons, unthread the alloy bracing, straighten the 10 meters of 10mm copper, go up stairs and hang it out of the window till it is empty. ..................or turn it upside down like I do
There may be a little left in the coil, don't worry, I have water in my household drinking supply all the time ...........It's never in contact with the brew, so no issue............It does make mine look a bit home made....eerrrrrrr.. oh yeah it is, but it's just right for my boiler. Well done again!

Re: My funky Home made Immersion Cooler
It's not possible to totally drain them after use, without a great deal of effort.pdtnc wrote:... Just one question, how do you get the water out of it when you've finished?
However, I get close by setting my chiller on the ground at the top of my driveway, and laying the outlet hose straight down the slope.
The suction of the draining water in the hose will drain almost all the water out of the chiller.

Re: My funky Home made Immersion Cooler
Little update for the pictures with some results from the cooling test (see first post)
I had to get my stopwatch out and the boil was of roughly 30 litres, I'll only be brewing and cooling about 12 L in reality.
IC is nice and clean now ready for Saturdays brewday

Re: My funky Home made Immersion Cooler
There is no real need to drain it. It's just easier to move about without water spilling around the house!

Copper+Water+Air = Green stuff
I suppose the easy way to avoid it would be to leave it full and stop the end of the pipe up

Cracking IC pdtnc, thank you for posting this!
I've just spiralled my 10x10 after seeing yours, going to follow your design too (with the plates, reducers + 15mm pipe)
Keep it up man!
