How to test water?

Hi all, i would like to make sure that i have good tap water for my beer and would like to test it. Does anybody know about some good test kit? Or would it be enough if i have look on water suplier tests?
And is there any "recommended" or "perfect" water [-o< ? I mean, what it should have and not have?
