Corny Loosing Pressure

Post by PeterM » Thu Aug 20, 2009 12:37 pm

Not sure if the keg is leaking but basically I force carbonate at around 40PSI and then a day or so later this has dropped to 30PSI, could this be the C02 being absorbed by beer, room getting colder etc or does it mean I have a leak?

Could be any of the above. Chances are it's being absorbed but you could have a leak. Not much help I'm afraid.

If the keg is pretty full of beer then it's almost certainly the beer that is absorbing the C02. Even the smallest of leaks would deplete the headspace of C02 pressure in a very short space of time. I wouldn't however maintain 40PSI if I were you, even if you're carbonating at room temperature you're going to end up with a hell of a fizzy beer at that kind of pressure. I'd drop it to 20PSI and maintain at that if at room temperature.
