Can I use plastic bottle cap instead of crown caps

Post by escapizm » Wed Sep 09, 2009 3:13 pm

Ive loads of red and clear platic bottle caps which are quite hard to get on and off, do these provide a good enough seal, ive been using then to cover the bottles after cleaning to get from kitchen to garage then poping off, filling then capping.

Just wonderred...

I remember my Dad using them back in the 70/80s, and If I recall correctly, his beer was usually flat!

If they're different from the ones he used, then maybe; Otherwise, I don't think I'd bother...

Let us know how you get on.

It would be good to know if they're worth using.

I'm using plastic reseals on my pint bottles. The only problem I've had so far is mice chewing through them whilst the beer is maturing in the shed [-X No problem with pressure but I don't go in for high carbonation.
Best wishes

I do prefer a more rounded smoother ale myslelf frather fizzy , if i got priming sugar all wrong do you think the pressure would just leak past the cap or blow it off?
