i made this strainer from earlier jims postings and it works great and is easy to make
it keeps ot of the way of the central element also

Fairly sure he cut the copper pipe into short lengths and put them inside the mesh.

yea a pipe cutter ( couple of quid from b n q ).... quick twist n its cut
the bits are then placed in the wire mesh

ok I'm going to have to wait until next week when I can get round my father in laws to borrow his tools, my masonry drill bits apparently don't want to drill through copper.

Ok then I've got it all fitted up, I was hoping it would reduce my dead space from a rather large 4 litres down to a few hundred ml, by utilising the syphon effect.
So the syphon isn't working for some reason and I was someone could tell me why, so here's some pics
