It may not be the oldest, but i will be celebrating its 20th birthday next year.

Or do i perhaps have the youngest one?

Looking like the youngest so far, I expect someone will be able to tell you when Boots stopped ordering that type of barrel!!

OK, back to the original post:

pressure = force*area

Now the hole in the top has a diameter of about 7mm
The post of the "mushroom" has diameter about 5mm

Area of residual "hole" = Pi * (7^2 - 5^2) /4 = 18.8 mm^2 (approx) = 0.029 sq inches
To hold back 10psi this needs a force of 0.029*10 = 0.29 lbs or just about 4.7 oz

Quite small, eh!

Anyway my kegs

Boots wk 46 yr 1985
Boots wk 29 yr 1985
Brewmaker month 12, year 1981

So I win neither the oldest, not he youngest, and I never was any good at top trumps, either!

I have two of them - I too was worried so I just filled and sealed the old valves with Araldite and then drilled and screwed in two valves as on King Kegs. Works fine. Very simple and quick

Mine is Week 39 1993 so one of the last ones I think.

Just about to keg Coopers Stout into it...
