How about just turning the heating up to 23C for a week while it's fermenting? It's going to be cheaper than buying a heater or controller.

Of course, the difficulty will be getting the missus to let you turn it down again afterwards....

Fair point. It would be a lot cheaper and as a bonus, she gets to be snuggly and warm for a week. Maybe she might even start liking this brewing lark... finally!!

Indeed, that sets a dangerous precedent ;-)
He'll only ever be able to make estery Belgian styles, there's no hope of a proper lager ;-)
