Advice on this as a grain container

Post by Digby Swift » Thu Oct 15, 2009 7:33 pm

I have found a friendly local micro who will sell me pale malt at a very reasonable rate but I have to buy it in 55kg quantities. I have been storing grain in my empty fermenters but I will need something bigger for this. I need something pest proof as I am surrounded by fields and often get visitors.

What do you guys think of these:

How do you keep the lid on? Does that band tighten?

They do have this alternative:

But I am a bit wary of the amount of smell the plastic could hold from the previous contents. I don't want a garlic beer.

Thanks all

I would go with the plastic one though I just use a black rubbish bin from B&Q

For the small amount that a new container is going to cost you I think that you would be better off getting something new.

Your malt might all end up being scented like mangoes....which isn't a bad aroma but its not the right thing for malt. and who knows about the steel drum? Its always hard purchasing sight unseen.

Yeah I may as well buy a new one really. I'll see if I can get to B&Q over the weekend. Thanks for the advice guys.
