Ball valve in a Leyland plastic boiler?

Post by johnmac » Wed Nov 18, 2009 12:10 pm

The orange tap on my 60L Leylnd boiler is on its last legs, so I'm thinking of replacing it with a ball valve, since it was never that great anyway. However, I'm worried that the plastic bucket won't take the weight of a ball valve + tank connector whilst hot, especially as the hole size dictates 3/4 rather than 1/2".

Is anyone using a ball valve in this way already?

Remember you don't have to put it in the same hole. You can blank the original hole (or just leve the old tap in. It could be a useful standby) Fit the new tap quite low and it should be fine.

I had an orange tap on my 60l boiler and wanted a ball valve on it instead so I removed old tap, made the hole bigger and added an extra element.
I then made a new, smaller hole for the ball valve. works fine

I've got a ball valve and tank connect on my plastic boiler. Weight is not a problem but I have to be careful to hold the valve whilst opening and closing it as there isn't enough rigidity in the boiler itself to resist the force.
Best wishes
