Beer Bottles

Post by Glenn » Wed Dec 02, 2009 10:04 pm

Ive found an old recipe for barley wine to make one gallon which Iam going to make now for christmas next year. It says to bottle in small bottles as its stong and should not be drunk in pints. My question is will holsten pils 275ml bottles be up to the job. Ive bought some and can recap them using the old metal boots capper. Any one help.

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be up to the job. I personally like to use 333ml Duvel bottles. Just ensure that your primary fermentation truly is complete before you bottle.

Should be alright as long as you're careful with priming and not bottling until the ferment is completely finished. I use 250ml Leffe bottles myself (largely because we have bought a load of it cheap in Calais in the past :D ), though Duvel bottles, or any other 250-330ml brown bottle is useful for this kind of thing.

I'd recommend from experience that, if you can, making more than a gallon is a good idea!
