Lid on or off when boiling

Post by Scroogemonster » Sat Dec 12, 2009 1:25 pm

Hi guys, I'm nearly set to go AG next year, I have a question. When doing the boil, do you leave the lid loosely on the top or leave it off. I would assume that more liquid is lost to evaporation with the lid off than with it laid loosely on the top?
Thanks
Kevin

Off. If you leave the lid on, undesirable compounds that should boil off condense on the lid and go back in the wort.

Cheers Jim, thinking of trying a barley bottom kit for a first go. Save working out quantities and all that, can anyone recommend any of his kits in particular?
Thanks
Kevin :)
