Corny/Co2 Questions....

Post by nigebeer » Tue Dec 15, 2009 3:57 pm

Hi All,

Just waiting to take delivery of my first corny from good old Norman.

What is the minimum volume that should be left between the top of the beer and the top of the keg for the Co2 build up.

I am having some difficulty locating a supplier of C02 in my area (Lincoln) but I have seen on the forum references to using fire extinguisher C02 as well as MIG welding CO2, is industrial type CO2 okay to use or should it be CO2 that is produced especially for the beer/food industry?

Hi

you need to ensure the beer level is below the gas in post. You will find when you take the lid off that there is a line an inch or so down the inside of the corny, I use this as my marker as you can see it when you fill.

For CO2 I use pub CO2, but I believe any is good - my local welding shop is my nearest supplier and they supply pub CO2 as their standard for welding ( although they are far from the cheapest..).

Have fun
Paul
