PID info

Post by tubthumper » Fri Jan 01, 2010 1:43 am

Is this PID worth getting or is haveing 2 displays making it too complicated because all the ones Ihave seen used in home brew are 1 line
but all the ones I have seen on ovens and fridges at old job were 2 line

I use that exact PID, I like two displays as can see target and actual temp at same time. I need to refine the set-up parameters of it though, have only brewed with it once so far.

you will need to think about two things, mounting the PID in a case with I would recommend a heat sink to dissipate the heat generated by switching - I would recommend a metal case to further aid this. secondly the temp probe supplied is not stainless so if you use it it has to be inside a thermal probe cover of some kind.

good luck
I would offer to post photo's of my PID case but I do not seem able to upload pics any more for some reason (have done this before) ?

Most of us use a PT 100 sensor instad of a K type thermocuple . . . but If youcan work out how to mount a K Type in your vessel it will work.

I've bought those PIDS as well and they work fine . . . bit pricier than when I bought though
