Hi all,
Am planning on buying this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mini-Digital-Temp ... 3efc23681f
in order to keep my Belgian brews at a constant temperature. All I need now is to buy an immersion heater. I've been looking at aquarium heaters but they all have their own temperature controllers. are there any out there that don't have temp adjusters and actually rely on a separate controlling unit?
Cheers

Re: Fermentation temperature control
Buy the aquarium heater but set it to a high temperature, like 27 degrees C.
Then use the controller to drive it. The temperature will never reach 27C (unless you are mad...) so the heater's thermostat will never cut the power.

Re: Fermentation temperature control
Yep, suppose I could do it that way.
Could go for this one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/50W-Crystal-Glass ... 5638fae219
Although this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT has no temp controller from what I can make out. No temperature controller = less bits on the device to harbour bacteria...
Decisions decisions... help me make this decision people!!

Nice - looks a good solution at a very nice price.
I just picked up a 60W tubular heater yesterday for my fermentation fridge - cost twice what that tank heater is!

It's also worth mentioning that many folks use an aquarium heater without any other external source of control. The thermostats in modern aquarium heaters are pretty good so they can keep the temperature within a degree or two of optimum. Setting them needs a bit of trial and error because the printed scales on them are often inaccurate but once set they will just work.

Yes, hopefully it will work on its own. That will free up my new controller for other jobs like HELPING MY BEER TO CARBONATEboingy wrote:It's also worth mentioning that many folks use an aquarium heater without any other external source of control. Damn this weather. I brewed a nice dark ale for these cold nights and the cold nights stop me from drinking them.
