25l food containers

Post by lukeykookey » Mon Feb 01, 2010 9:48 pm

Hi all, new to the forum so hello :-)

I've made a few kit batches and am loving brewing my own beer, still a novice in many respects

I have just acquired a quantity of 25 litre food grade air tight containers, just like these

I was thinking of drilling the lids for a bung and using as fermenting buckets.

Now my question is, I have poreviously used a bucket for beer brewing which was airtight but with a large hole in the top I could get my hand into to give it a good clean inside. The hole going into these containers is probably 3 inches across.

Any suggestions about how to clean the upper side of these containers? I am thinking something like an aggregate in bleach or sterilising liquid, maybe rice??? Then give it a real good shake? Or will soaking it be enough?

Thanks!

Make the hole really big so that you can easily get in there to clean it out. Don't listen to the those who say your FV needs to be airtight because it doesn't. Personally I'd just go out and buy an FV - they're only about 8 quid.
Best wishes
