Hop&Grape hop filter modification

Post by macca » Thu Apr 29, 2010 10:28 pm

After getting a very annoying stuck runoff from the boil yesterday, I have modified my Hop and Grape hop filter manifold to try and prevent the problem recurring. Picture below shows I have drilled two 3mm holes between each of the slits in the pipe.
I hope this improves runoff and stops clogging and does not let particle matter through.

if that dosen't work, try drilling more 3mm holes in the top as well, I did this to mine and it improved things greatly.

I thought the holes were supposed to be on the bottom to stop particles getting through. But if holes on top works for you then I will try that next if it keeps getting stuck..

I was advised to do and did exactly what you have done and it works a treat!

I'm going to try this. I've done three brews with my H&G boiler and have had to take out the auto siphon each time.

The holes are on the bottom. The hop filter is turned upside down in the picture.

Just wrap it in a coarse muslin bag, you will never have a problem again. Been using mine like this for years, as fast a run off as you like every time.
