It's a hot water supply from the new hot water tank in the garage.

Image

In the summer it's heated from this magic box of tricks that diverts excess solar power into the tank. On a bright day the tank is up to 85decC before lunch.

So if start brewing late morning i can use the free preheated water then run the brewery off the panels. Should be a 'green' brew.

Im liking the green aspect of the build, its something i want to incorporate into my new build. I just need to get the outside of the building finished (im building a pergola over a decking area), so i can finally get on with the actual brewery

I will be singing after my first brew.

2014 I started this 2nd system!!!

The only brewing I’ve done is extract kits on the stove.

I’ll have to learn AG all over again...

Pumped drain and gravity drain added.

I just tapped into the return pipe from the plate chiller.

Probably the most boring job so far.

Interesting to know I had almost 1L of displacement on the laser etched markings inside due to all the fixtures and fittings.

-Extra element in the BK as 1 3kW element barely maintained a decent boil.
-Sight glasses in.
-Holder for the mash paddle.

One observation I would make is the level of the return port when whirlpooling and or cooling, particularly the latter. I found that cooling took longer when I was returning cooled wort to the bottom of the kettle. What was happening was cooled wort was returned to the bottom of the kettle and then promptly returned to my plate chiller, with the hot wort staying nearer the top. Obviously if you don't recirculate through a chiller and use an IC instead this isn't important

Thanks, that makes complete sense. I'll chop off 200-300mm maybe a little more. :D

If you can affect an adjustment that always returns the wort to just below the surface of whatever brew length you are doing it would be ideal.

How about a floating silicone pipe? That works in the mash tun for the sparge.
