@braindead share or state your location, it could easily enlist a local offer of help. For example if close by you would be welcome to pop round ours for half an hour to punch out a hole or two..

i`m based in Wigan.
Ordered the tools now, but after wasting money on a crappy 51mm Bosch hole saw.
Had to splash out on a carbide tipped one as the other just did bugger all apart from burn the skin of the pot.
Hoping it goes to plan.
Just need a false bottom now, do fancy the Blichmann

Hi guys. Really sorry I haven't been online in such a long time. I'm glad to see my guide has helped a lot of people out. If anyone needs to borrow some tools I do still have the 51mm cutter and qmax cutters available. I'm in Lancashire and can drive within a reasonable distance if it will help someone out. Cheers

Thanks anyway.
Just purchased the tools and converted today
Do you have quite a lot of deadspace inside the pot due t the washer and the slightly raised deck drain?

you can 'notch' the deck fittings lip, tho its a lot easier with brass than ss fittings. (and i didnt bother)

Or mount the deck fitting without a spacing washer on the inside, and mount at the front/side not the centre, that way a simple forward tip at the end of the last of the sparge will drop the dead space to a few ml ;)

Do you think the seal will be fine without the washer?

I did have a little seepage with my first zero washer fit, but i put that down to a slight mis-sanding of the elbow fitting it screwed into as the face was slightly off flush.

however i fixed that with a smear of fernox lsx on the deck fitting underlip.

LSX while quite noxious out of the tube will cure to a virtually pure silicone and is approved for use with hot and cold pottable water.

However unlike bathroom and kitchen silicone products its not impregnated with anti fungals, so may be prone to 'bathroom sealant black mould' Well thats what i know it as ;) If you keep your tun damp when stored. Fwiw Mine is kept dry between brews and i towel out the last dregs of the final rinse out.. (a few grains of rice scattered will absorb excessive atmospheric moisture or damp)
