Re: Brewometer
Very interested in this. Having better monitoring of fermentation progress is one area would help me fine tune some beers.
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.
Re: Brewometer
Saw this on the website, so it looks like they are looking at mixing it into other setups:

Brewometer
Well after doing a bit more reading, it looks like someone has already written the code to integrate the gravity and temp readings into the Brew Pi output.

OG 1056
12hr later 1047
14hr after that 1034 (this morning) 18c
From experience I know what is happening inside due to the blow off volume & feq. I hope the brewometer will give me more of an idea when terminal gravity has been reached. My normal approach is to pitch, let ferment fart away for a few days ..... slow and then leave for a couple more days. Most standard beers will be finished in 7 to 10 days, take a reading , cool & keg.
They already have logging software for the Brewometer which I have yet to set up.
As for shipping I was fortunate enough that someone hand delivered mine.

Barneey you need to stop showing me your shiny new toys on here, after doing some reading around it, especially with regard to Brew PI integration, it looks like Demig and I might have to splash for a couple of these.
A couple of pics of some of the integrations done so far (the Brew PI GUI should be updated to a more modular clean design "soon" but these are custom ones):

Re: Brewometer
How is everyone getting on with their Brewometer/Tilt?
Are you still using them for every brew?
How accurate are they vs hydrometer?
I'm very tempted to ask someone to pick up from the states for me and like the idea of knowing gravity at each stage of the brew to aid with dry hopping, slow fermentations, kegging, etc etc
Thanks!

Re: Brewometer
Went to use mine for the first time two weeks ago to find out the battery was flat. They are shipped "live" so unless you are getting yours quickly from a friend over there I would ask then to pull the box out of the package and put it on its side to turn it off. I will let your know how the next brew goes!

Re: Brewometer
Ah...I'll look out for that if I take the plunge and order one.
I haven't been able to find many UK reviews of it which makes me a bit nervous - wonder how long the company will last....
Having said that the attraction of knowing the gravity exactly at any point in fermentations. Is very strong!

Re: Brewometer
I've had one for a few months - I love it. I've got it integrated with brewpi.
There does seem to be an issue with some units suffering from excessive battery usage. They will swap problem ones FOC delivered no problem. I had this with my first one and they exchanged it without issue.

How did that work with the whole international postage, did you have to pay the return?sladeywadey wrote:I've had one for a few months - I love it. I've got it integrated with brewpi.

Do they mark it for customs as a replacement?
Just hoping mine doesn't have the issue and that it was just it being a few months old before I actually tried it.

Re: Brewometer
When you order it, get them to test the battery level is OK before despatch.
They will pay for the postage - remind them to mark the package value as zero value. Otherwise our lovely Royal Mail will charge the usual customs fees etc on the package value.
You'll know if you have a dodgy one if you test it 'live' using a new battery for 5 days in a glass of water and the battery runs out.

Re: Brewometer
Cheers, about to order some new batteries so will do the glass of water test.

Re: Brewometer
yeah I took the brewpi subsystem and the addon python brewpi-tilt integration and hacked it around by adding the gauges/monitoring/db storage etc
I'm not a fan of the brewstat stuff personally.
