1.1/2 Inc q-max cutter replacement bolt help

Post by paz1 » Mon Mar 20, 2017 5:26 pm

Hi all,
Wonder if any one out there knows if I can get a replacement bolt for a 1.5inc q-max cutter. I have managed to mess up the head of where the allen key fits and I have also noted that the threads on the bolt are also starting to wear out. Ideally a bolt replacement would be cheaper than purchasing a whole new Q-Max cutter especially when the main body of the cutter it self is in perfect condition.
Many thanks for your help in advance.
Paresh.

This has happened with some of them that i use at work. Just replace the allen key bolt for a normal hex head bolt. Then use a spanner instead of an allen key.

Hi Chefgage,
Thanks for the tip, I'll give the normal bolts a go.
Cheers.

Hi All,

I am still in the hunt for a replacement bolt for my q-max cutter.

I am fairly sure it's a M10 size bolt, but every M10 threaded bolt I have tried only does in about half a turn and then no more. I think that the tread on the cutter are different to the threads of a regular bolt. I have tried a few bolts from screwfix and tools station, but no joy.
Is anyone able to shade any light on this please ?

Thanks

I will have a look at one of my q cutters and see what type of bolt/ setscrew fits it.

If its an imperial cutter than i would think you would need an imperial bolt hence why the metric m10 only turn half a turn. I have found a data sheet that shows the 1.1/2" cutter needs a 5/16" key/bolt.

Hi,

Thank you for your input.

I'll look for the cheapest supplier of the 5/16 size bolt. I'll let you know how that works out for future fellow brewers reference.

Once again, thank you for all the input, it truly much appreciated.

No problem. Hopefully the 5/16th will work.
If you struggle to find a shop that will just sell you one bolt i would try ebay. I needed just one 12mm setscrew a while ago and the only place i got get just one was off ebay.
