"Loc-line" for recirculating mash?
"Loc-line" for recirculating mash?
Does anyone here use Loc-line when recirculating your mash? I'm thinking of trying it out.

There's a home brew shop that sells it for that purpose, I've seen it in action, issues are small bits of husk getting stuck in jets but as recirc yep good
Re: "Loc-line" for recirculating mash?
i tryed one for sparging and it didnt work great as unless you had the pump going full blast it didnt make it to the end holes
"Loc-line" for recirculating mash?
Was going to say you need a good flow as well
Re: "Loc-line" for recirculating mash?
Its what I've been using. However, I'm going to replace it with something else. Its a great idea but the holes are too big so the flow has to be too fast to get it to all the holes.

can you not rotate the first ones up so they receive the water later?
Re: "Loc-line" for recirculating mash?
I've tried all rotations etc, but no. The holes are just too big.

Doesnt angel homebrew sell these or his different
Re: "Loc-line" for recirculating mash?
Yes, I got mine from angel. I tried a rotating sparge arm first and that sprayed wort everywhere. I think I'm going to get a stainless steel ring and drill it. Every off the shelf item hasn't worked well for me, but my mash tun is 200ltr so it may work better on smaller vessels

"Loc-line" for recirculating mash?
I spose you could block some with food grade silicone or take them out with standard loc line connections?
Re: "Loc-line" for recirculating mash?
I'm using TD5 mag pumps.
Yes I think the best solution may be to take some out. I was thinking of making mine a complete ring and putting another pump feed the other side.

Re: "Loc-line" for recirculating mash?
I use a ring of 1/2 inch silicon hose with some holes drilled in it for my HERMS recirc. Works very well, with a bit of flexibility in design (e.g. drill as many holes as you want, whatever size you want). I also find it rests nicely on top of the mash, so it adjusts to various mash sizes without too much bother. Cheap and cheerful as well, which is nice - just a bit of hose and a copper T:
