SS Ball Valve on plastic fermenter
SS Ball Valve on plastic fermenter
I'm finally going to give in and install a tap on at least one of my fermenters. I'm paranoid about sanitation of the tap so I was thinking of either one of the 2 or 3 piece SS ball valves commonly used for kettles, which I could boil for sanitation. Anyone else doing this? Am I mad?

Re: SS Ball Valve on plastic fermenter
Sounds a bit heavy for a plastic FV. I use a plastic drum tap, the type with the narrow spout so I can get a silicone tube over it for kegging/bottling. They come apart for cleaning and can be boiled if you wish.
Best wishes

Well as pointed out it's a lot of weight unless your using a thick walled fv.
My boil kettle I remove the tap completely just leaving the tank connecter in situ.
I think places like the home brew builder do mini s/s ball valves whether these suit your needs I'm unsure

Re: SS Ball Valve on plastic fermenter
I use a 1 piece ss valve on my plastic fermenter which works ok.
I also use 1.5" tri-clamp ball valves on other plastic vessels, but I wouldn't really recommend doing that
Re: SS Ball Valve on plastic fermenter
I use stainless 1/2" valve and thermowell on my plastic fermenter and not had any issues
Re: SS Ball Valve on plastic fermenter
I use them on the Wilcos wine fermenters with no issues. I have a small bottle brush to run through it when cleaning the Fv. I also remove it periodically for a good soak and visual inspection.
