grab the solid core from some hi amp rated twin n earth to form your scaffold perhaps, lead free plumbers solder will 'glue' the mesh to the framework.
just take care between brews not to crush it ..

I guess it is going to have to be a wire based solution, unless I luck out when taking something apart.
I am lucky with the storage aspect - it can sit in the kettle which has a BBQ grill as a guard to protect my BIAB bag.
