100L brewery build.

Post by EportJake » Thu Aug 31, 2017 8:39 pm

Chaps. It's been about 4 years since I last brewed - I moved house and all the gear went into storage. Had a decent 30L setup with more than 20 brews under my belt. Started planning my new brewery recently, then I get a text from a few mates saying they want to brew too. 5 of us - 2 x C&I instrument technicians, a gas fitter, an ex RAF maintenance tech and an operator working in the food industry. We've got skills and can probably "aquire" a lot of the necessary components. So now I'm planning a 100L brewery.
Everything I ever learnt about brewing came from these forums, and here I am again, looking for guidance.

Im looking at a 100/100/150 setup. I'm seriously considering the HLT and BK be constructed from converted SS hot water cylinders (I like saving money but main reason is I like to recycle).
HLT - 100L direct SS hot water cylinder, 2 x 2.4kw elements from my old brupaks boiler.
MT - 100L SS prebuilt from Powell brewing
BK - 150L indirect SS hot water cylinder. 3kw and 2.4kw elements/immersion heaters. I plan to leave the coil in this cylinder and use it as a cooler for the hot wort post boil.
Pumps - 2 pump system. One TS5 mini mag pump for HLT to MT and HERMS recirculation https://www.brewbuilder.co.uk/ts5-mini-mag-pump.html. One high temp chugger style pump MT to BK and BK to FV.
HERMS - torn between a coil in the HLT and a seperate mini vessel.
FV - plan to use blue open top kegs. https://www.ampulla.co.uk/Open-Top-Kegs ... p-114-443/. Still deciding whether to pitch into one 120L or split the brew into 2 x 60L kegs.

I'm at the stage where kit needs to be acquired, so any advice that helps me avoid failing miserably would be well appreciated. Thanks, Jake.

There was a recent discussion on this subject, including a build by "yours truly" and it runs through lots of useful snippets:
