Modifying a Buffalo 40l boiler to reach a rolling boil

Post by grunter » Tue Sep 26, 2017 3:38 pm

Hi

I recently bought a shiny new Buffalo 40L boiler, sadly have filled it for the boil it wouldn't hold the boil without clicking out ... beer survived but was not the best. Worst still the element plate was completely encrusted with burnt wort... not an easy clean.

Has anyone has this problem and resolved it ... I wish my old burco boiler was still alive...

I'm a spark so if there a thermal cut that needs disabling that should be and issue but i thought i'd ask before meddling!

If i can get it to heat up properly at least i use it as a HLT.

Cheers.

Its a very common and easily solved problem(ette).. No Biggy..

unplug, empty, upturn, and pull the base.

there are 2 forms of protection involved here, 1) a thermal switch you will find bolted to the pot base underside.

and 2 a thermal fuse, the switch will reset when cool enough the fuse when blown will need replacement/bypassing..

the switch is stopping you from hitting a boil, either replace it with one with a higher cut off temp (140c perhaps)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-Temperature- ... sNkXZEAEDw to retain a similar level of protection, Or Simply bypass it tho if you bypass it use a suitable ceramic teminal connector, the usual lego brick style will get hot and probably melt its plastic insulation..

if n doubt post pics for clarification, but dont do anything your not comfortable and confident with

ps m not qualified in any way to give such advuce..
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
