old burco boiler

Post by brewjohn » Sat Nov 11, 2017 3:53 pm

I have a very old burco which is square in shape with a round boiler inside ,holds 44 ltr and is rated at 3 Kw. The element is caked in carbon after forgetting to switch off before I added and stirred in DME !! I have got most of it off by soaking in Oxiclean and lots of scraping . What is the best chemical to soak it in ? Also if it needs replacing my element is approx. 130mm diameter and is round and nearly flat and fits in a recess at the bottom. The only burco elements I can find at 3kw are slightly bigger and butterfly shaped. has anyone fitted one of these in place of the smaller round type. I can find no reference anywere for the older round type.

it cant be scrap already , its only about 50 years old !!!
