Conical fermenter questions.
Conical fermenter questions.
So I have managed to bag this off eBay for £165. It's 200L capacity with a single bottom drain point. First question is whether what I've got is worth what I paid. Second is moving it. Can it be tipped on its side for transportation in a trailer or do I need to be standing it up in the back of a transit? Once I actually get the thing home further questions will probably arise as I've only ever fermented in small batches in plastic Wilko fermenters. Thanks, Jake.

I'd say worth what you paid. Transporting g in its side shouldn't be a problem

Re: Conical fermenter questions.
Filling it OTOH is going to be a bigger issue
Absolute bargain, but you are not done spending money on it yet...

200 litre! how big is you brew set up for? if its the usual 23litres then this could be overkill maybe? need a big brew fridge!

I've upscaled to a 100/100/200 setup intending to do 150L batches between 5 brewers.Onthebrew wrote:200 litre! how big is you brew set up for? if its the usual 23litres then this could be overkill maybe? need a big brew fridge!

Re: Conical fermenter questions.
You will have to think about brewing statically, using pumps to move the beer around as that much beer will weigh about 450Kg. Do you have a permanent place where you brew, like a brew shed?
Re: Conical fermenter questions.
It will be Heavy but not 450kg, 200litres of beer will weigh just over 200kg
Either way bloody heavy and lots of it, nice pump in order now.
As for original question sounds like a good deal to me

Re: Conical fermenter questions.
The Brewery is being built in a garage, single tier 2 pump affair. It's getting there slowly. We still need a boiler at around 200L capacity. Might be getting that fabricated - one of our brewers is owed a favour by a fitter who builds storage vessels for the armed forces. Some pictures attached.scotsloon wrote:You will have to think about brewing statically, using pumps to move the beer around as that much beer will weigh about 450Kg. Looks good. You will probably have to have a head scratch about crash cooling options.
Something like a maxi cooler will maintain the temp during active fermentation, but good luck finding a fridge that that beast can fit in. You might need to DIY a fermentation chamber around it

Re: Conical fermenter questions.
just purchased a 200l boiler from brewbuilder. quite reasonable cost wise
Re: Conical fermenter questions.
It's jacketed, so I'm thinking an Stc1000 with a glycol circuit and pump for cooling and a heating belt/trace heating. The glycol store can sit in a freezer or fridge which will double as a store for yeast and hops. I'm miles away from this yet but yeah I've got some ideas, although how valid they are I am only guessing at this stage.TheSumOfAllBeers wrote:Looks good. Yeah these are probably my fallback option if the fabrication proves too costly or doesn't materialise.Secla wrote:just purchased a 200l boiler from brewbuilder. quite reasonable cost wise

Great space. Thanks - Once you have the final plans together post them here for a critique. This lot will keep you right.

Those elements look top quality. Where did you source those from?
