Sourcing cheap LWD elements.

Post by LeeH » Sat Dec 23, 2017 7:10 pm

Having left my RIMS on today (like a noob) with no liquid, I am going to order a new one from brew builder.

However, I would like to carry a spare so am looking for a cheaper supplier to cut the costs a little.

Cheers.

Yep, I have a flow switch but it looked a proper bug trap so I omitted it from the control.

If I can find something a little cleaner I'll wire it into the pulsed output of the SSR or the contactor that supplies the SSR.

the lwd elements are £60 or so? And are used by many here with no negatives that ive seen, i wouldnt cut costs on such a critical part of my system tbo for that amount of money and piece of mind.

It's only a spare to hot swap on brew day.

brewbuilder does a smaller one, its a bit cheaper, same quality but again why risk the quality and reliability of an unknown brand ? and brewbuilders comes with the shroud to cover the terminals

If its for backup purposes then its gonna be needed when something fails, elements when they fail are not repairable, so you will be needing to replace the original.. Therefore i would suggest a cheap backup would be a false economy as you would still be required to buy a proper replacement anyway.

if you want i have spare elements bought before i invested in the brewbuilder lwd elements infamously discussed in here in a thread labled 'elements elements elements' iirc seaton brand and they started to loose element plating after a few brews.. yours for the postage if i can dig one out..

and after a good scrub with scotchbrite - very soft and yellow, brass?

If brass you may want to look at lead passification with acid? personally tho..

I fitted an extra contactor to my control panel which gets its power from the pump i use for the RIMS system, if the pump is not running then the contact is open and the element will not switch on.

works a treat still on my first element after many years of use
