Water to garage
Water to garage
I have a detached garage I want to brew in. I don't want to run a permanent supply as digging a trench across the garden isn't an option.
Obviously hose pipe isn't the best option. I have a outside tap is possible to just use some kind of food safe hose from that to the garage ? Would it be ok for consumption as it comes off the same supply etc.

Re: Water to garage
i've been using a hosepipe from an outside tap for a couple of years with no obvious problems - although it is a kaercher pthalate and lead free one. no ill effects and nobody has noticed any plastic flavours. the water is flying through the pipe, it isn't sitting around in contact with it. although now you've made me think about it i wonder if i should switch to the blue hose caravanners use that is certified food safe.

You can get a suitable hose from a caravan shop.

I use this type of hose, not sure where I bought it now, fits all brass or stainless garden hose fittings. A bit rigid in cold weather but otherwise is fine.

Good to hear people have done similar with no problems. I probably won't leave it out all the time obviously above ground in the winter it will freeze.
Most likely go for the food safe hose to just to be in the safe side

Re: Water to garage
for sure use decent hose if you can. i've drunk rubber flavoured water out of cheap hose and it's not nice!
you can still hard plumb the shed, but connect it up plug n play via removable hosepipe. that way it's easy to pack away and drain the system when not in use to stop pipes freezing.

You can get potable water hoses for caravans on eBay.
But to be honest as long as you have a decent hose and run it for a couple of minutes before you use it to collect your brewing liquor then everything will be fine.
I suggest to run it to flush out any stale water or anything that has picked anything up from the hose lining. You only need to do that for your brewing liquor, not for cleaning.

Id also get a bike pump to blow thru any remaining water at end of brewday stop any stale water collecting.
The mdpe is an interesting idea providing you have no bends to run around

Just out of interest why is not digging the garden up an option ? blue waterpipe is the easiest to lay
Re: Water to garage

You could always lay it via mole http://molehomeservices.co.uk/what-we-d ... ter-mains/ No idea on the cost though.
