You can get a few degrees difference depending depending on distance to the object too. This is because the measuring area increases the further away the gun is.

Useless.

And a quick note to the uninitiated - "Resolution" is not the same as "Accuracy"!

Resolution refers to the units of display, in the case above, a tenth of a degree - looks GREAT! The accuracy however (and it's not stated here), may be only +/- a whole degree (or worse), but the display will be to one decimal point. So it can be very misleading.
I never mentioned the resolution. The accuracy of IR guns are effected by the distance to the object.

I can't help but feel a "you are just making this up" undercurrent here, but no matter.20221031_172755.jpg
Do you wonder why ??
I can't see any sign of fermentation plus the strainer you show in the next photo does not seem to have worked in this case.
What are you making with this? It looks a lot like elderberry wine. Are they berries from this years crop?

IR is useless for the most part.
I agree you can't beat the thermapen; I repeat you can not beat the thermapen.

Fermentation has been and gone. You don't press wine until it has finished fermenting (generally).

These are black grapes, and I thought the strainer was doing fine? Wassup?

Love my thermapen. Easy to use and allows me to check the temperature deeper into the mash, or wherever, than an IR theremometer.

I get that. I have to confess I don't check it at all.

I love it! I love it's precision and nearly instant readings during the mash. I have a Thermapen One.

Yup. The mash.
I trust the braumeister to do its thing, it has a probe, display and controller.

Other than calibration why would I?

One of my best brewing buys. So much so that I bought a second one for the kitchen when they were on sale.

It's the beer that counts, not the ammount of stainless you can collect. Coolers make great beer.

I like the BM 'cos I can leave it to get on.
