Replacement Boiler Tap

Post by Binkie Huckaback » Sun Feb 04, 2024 2:04 pm

Can anyone recommend a decent tap to fit in a Peco boiler? I'm really fed up with the one that's supplied. IT's got to have a faster flow rate the hole than the existing tap and I have the tools to enlarge the hole if need be.

If anyone can also recommend a hop filter to fit on the back of it, that would be great.

Oh, does anyone know why Peco fit such awful taps to these boilers?

Would a stainless ½" bsp lever v as lve fit it?

Hops battery idea, mangrove Jack's hop spider. Sensible money. Really good bit of kit.

Hop battery--Hmmm. Could it replace the lithium batteries in cars?

Interesting idea.

"Filter" & "battery" are not even close on my phone.
How did it do that?
I think artificial intelligence (it got that first time) might have some challenges 😁😁

Thanks. I'll have a look at those taps.

Battery/Better could be the problem

When I began BIAB, I used a (cheap) tea urn/boiler I bought off eBay. I replaced the tap with a 1/2" BSP tap (had to enlarge the hole) and a bazooka filter I bought from the Malt Miller. Still working 7+ years later, although I use GF30 for mash/boil and the tea urn now serves as sparge water heater.

I also needed to buy a connecting piece to join together the above items. I think this is the one:

Fermenting: nowt
Conditioning: English IPA/Bretted English IPA
Drinking: Sunshine Marmalade, Festbier, Helles Bock, Smokey lagery beer, Irish Export StoutCascade APA (homegrown hops), Orval clone, Impy stout, Duvel clone, Conestoga (American Barley wine)
Planning: Dark Mild, Kozel dark (ish), Simmonds Bitter, Bitter, Citra PA and more!
