It Only Took 10 Years & 5 Minutes

Post by MarkA » Wed Apr 03, 2024 2:44 pm

I have finally got round to replacing the tap on my Buffalo Boiler. I've had a new tap sat in the garage for a few years, and every brewday I sit there waiting for the wort to trickle into the fermenter thinking 'I really need to change that £$%$%^^ tap!' Then I promptly forget until the next brewday (and a small part putting me off was worrying that I might open the hole up too much). No more! It took me about 5 minutes with a medium half-round file to open the hole up and fit the new tap.

Just waiting for a short bazooka filter to arrive to complete the set up.

I fitted a tap like that to my Burco boiler and it was much better for brewing than the tap it came with

Cool, glad to hear it's made a difference. I also use my boiler to heat the mash and sparge water so should be a bit easier for that too, plus I'm now thinking that I might be able to make up a sparge arm to fit as it allows a lot more control. Again, small things that make life easier that I've been thinking about for years, but done nothing about!

I ' made' (assembled?) a dip tube thing for my Burco as there was a lot of dead space if you just screw a hop stopper thing in the back of the tap. I found that helpful and was very easy to make. Sparge arm sounds tricky.

Here you go. Will do the job beautifully, Just needs a supply of hot water, either pumped or from a container higher than the arm

I don't get much dead space with the Buffalo, and tilt it when transferring to the fermenter to get everything out. I sometimes pick the boiler up and tip what's left into the fermenter when the tap is at a tiny trickle and really p*&%$%g me off, but hopefully those days are gone!!
