Brewbuilder RIMS

Post by Haydnexport » Tue May 23, 2017 1:11 pm

Hi guys, I took advantage of mrlard dropping the price of his split rims tube , and ordered an element too. I've read what I can on the setup from posts here and blogs etc. I'm just wondering if there is any tips on setup from the guys who have bought it and used it for a while. I'd love pictures, especially plumbing, especially when you want to empty mash tun, do you do it through the rims or bypass it ?

i have no direct experience but recall following posts detailing problems that got sorted when it was eventually mounted vertically with some method to bleed out air that gets trapped in the tube generally around the temp probe leading to overheating issues..
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager

Keep it vertical and make sure the temperature probe is long enough to be in the middle of the wort outflow. I use the RIMS tube the whole time and run off to the ketle through it, with the element turned off of course.

OK.

First picture ilustrates m original configuration. This NOT the way to do it unless the length of your probe is in the centre of the wort flow, mine was too short so...

This shows the current configuration where the original side exit has been blanked off with a T now containing the probe ensuring the wort passes the probe.

Looks a very nice bit of kit. What is the purpose of the threaded tee on top - is the tube too short (or element too long) to use the tube's top triclamps for probe and wort directly?

I found the probe was too short and was not registering the exact wort temp. Lardy came up with this solution, which he didn't charge me for. :D

Ah, I see - thanks for the clarification. Good old brewbuilder, saved you getting a different probe.
