Water & electricity costs

Post by johnmac » Tue Mar 20, 2007 4:59 pm

Since starting all grain, I wondered how much metered water and electricity were adding to the cost. I finally got around to doing a rough calculation for a five gallon brew:

Water use:

Starter 1 gallon
Wort 7
cooling 15
boiler clean 2
fermenter sanitise and rinse 8
fermenter clean 2
secondary sanitise and rinse 8
secondary clean 2
keg sanitise and rinse 6
keg clean 3
=54 gall = .245 M3 @ 220p.

Water cost = 54p

Electricity 7 kw/h @ 8p

Electricity cost = 56p

So less than 3p per pint :D

And my AG brews cost about 20 - 25 p / pint

you are probably being over generous but you use 8 gallons to sanitize and rinse fermenter and secondary!
but doesnt make a great deal of difference since water is cheap.
good skills
