Oxyclean.

Does any one use oxyclean for cleaning.

I use it and love the stuff. It's only a couple of quid. It's sold as a laundry detergent but it's great at srubbing my carboys and bottles. I've never used a brush yet.

I've also read that it's a steriliser but can not get confirmation.

I just bought some Soda crystals and the active ingiedients are different to oxyclean.

Oxy-Plus (Astonish) : Sodium Carbonate Peroxyhdrate >30% £1.85/KG
Soada Crystals : Soda Carbonate Decahydrate >30% 55p/kg.

A few questions.

Will the active ingriedients make any difference?
What is the reccomend dillution
Will it sanitise?
Why would the Oxy plus do a better job than the Soda Crystals?

1. Yes, both are good cleaners, percarbonate is better.
2. For soda crystals I don't know.
3. Soda crystals no. Percarbonate maybe but I don't think so. It's an oxygen based bleaching agent but I'm not sure it sanitises. I wouldn't rely on it.
4. Because percarbonate is a better cleaning agent. The best stuff of all is PBW but you can't get that in the UK. It contains other ingredients as well as percarbonate.

I use the Oxyclean (baby version - no perfume etc) for cleaning my cornies. It doesn't sanitise though. I use iodophor for that.

I've used PBW and it's good stuff (as is StarSan) but they're expensive to ship from the US (also no-one will ship StarSan to the UK anymore)

I've just bought some vanish oxyclean, how long do you leave things in it to get rid of odours,it's the cylinder of a beer engine that smells fausty.

Vanish has started using scent crystals! Beware if it smells nice!

I soak things either until its lifted the dirt off, or about an hour. I tend to use just enough to start foam to form at the surface, and tap-hot water.

No mate, save it for the washing. It's great at that!

Wilkinson's do an OxyClean by Astonish. It's pretty cheap, and works well.
