Undiluted Starsan gone brown
Undiluted Starsan gone brown
Hello everyone,
My first post here, the starsan in my bottle has gone brown. If I remember correctly it was originally clear. Has this happened to anyone else? I don't really want to throw it out because the bottle is practically brand new.
Thanks,
Ben.

Hmm where did you store it? In direct sunlight maybe?
I keep mine under the sink and it is still nearly clear. (after 8+ months)

It has been stored at the bottom of a box that has sealed bags of grain in. The box is stored well out of the way in a cupboard behind the sofa. Thanks. The bottle is a small solid white one and is maybe three months old.

I have never known Starsan go brown, that is strange indeed. I don't think I would trust it.

So after thinking I realised what the cause may be. I left the seal half intact, if I remember correctly the seal had foil on it that isn't there now. Could this be the answer with it being acidic?

I think it's due to the storage conditions, ie, heat, and O2. ( there was a post about doggy lids cracking braking) . So if the lid was not on proper the extra warmth would not help matters.
It may still work, but you may need to make it a bit more concentrated. But if you can test the pH, that'll tell ya.

Mines always had a light brown tinge to it since i started using it
I just checked an old bottle I had that has the dodgy cracked top and its the same colour as a new one

Should be a slight light yellow colour, but me thinks some makes have more or less inherit ingreadants added (water). And don't forget the volume you look through changes the apperance of the colour, as the light get absorbed more.
But either way my eyes ant what they used to be.

Thanks everyone, maybe I'm just worrying over nothing.

This darkening in colour as been referred to by the manufacturer on a BN podcast that I've listened to.
As has been said above, it is the pH of the made up solution that is important.
