Cleaning aluminium firkins - emergency cleaning product?

Post by DeGarre » Tue Dec 08, 2015 10:58 pm

Hello, some delivery problems and tomorrow is supposed be a racking day. Isinglass and everything ready. We ran out of Caustic and new delivery is delayed,
I am a bit worried that my isinglass solution will spoil.

We usually rinse, spray with caustic in hot water, rinse again and sanitise. Any other product I could use in an emergency to clean aluminium firkins? Something I could pick up from a supermarket?

Some conflicting info on bleach and oxyclean for aluminium so perhaps I should just test with hot water (70-80degC) (and fairy... ) if I get a fresh clean smell...

Thanks!

Sorry, stainless. Don't know where I got the aluminium from.

And I guess problem solved, have some Nipac left.

Thanks for your comment, without it might've taken a day or two before I realised stainless not aluminium...

Pleased that you are sorted.

I used to decoke my motorbike exhausts with strong caustic soda. Unfortunately a mate tried to do the same to his cylinder head and it dissolved. Expensivel mistake
