Passivation of 26L SS brew tech chronical

Post by timtoos » Tue Jan 17, 2017 6:08 pm

Hi all,

I am looking for some advice on passivating my new fv.

Does anyone know the correct volumes required for the starsan and water? Do I fill right to the top of the fermenter?, Or just add a24L mix? Or fill half way and keep moving the mix around the edges of the fv to keep it all wetted?

The manual states 1oz stars per gallon. I presume thats a US gallon (3.8l is it?). Is 1oz 30ml? (Just going on side of stars container, one side shows oz the ml).

So if I did a mix of 24L water to 190ml of stars would that be right?

I presume that passivation requires a stronger solution mix. What do I do with the mix once complete? Its a lot of stuff to dump to drain.

Also, the temperature should be between 21 - 27C. Is this important?

Cheers in advance

Starsan is best with deionized, soft water. Then you need 4ml / 1 Liter. I take a flower water pistol and filled it up with 1,5l. I dont fill up my buckets....

I just finish with a Star San rinse via a spray bottle every time I clean up and leave it to dry.

Not had any rust yet.

Few litres of warm pbw give is a run around with a soft brush, rinse, then a good spray with starsan
That's all I've ever done with my ssbrewtech stuff
