How to Guide: Adding more Hop Aroma

Post by laithclark » Wed Oct 14, 2015 10:34 am

I have put together a 'How to Guide' based on my experiences of adding more hop aroma to my beers. I like a nice hop aroma in my beers!

It covers the following methods: Dry Hopping, Adding Hop Tea and using Hop Aroma Oils

I hop you find it useful. Please send me any comments or questions you may have so I can update/improve it accordingly.

Here's the link: http://www.thehomebrewdiaries.co.uk/wp- ... -Aroma.pdf

So which method did you find most effective?

Well for ease Hop Oil which also gives you a clearer beer but hop tea is also easy to administer and I think personally gives a nicer flavour plus there's no risk of a grassy flavour if you leave the hops in too long

Hi, I think you are steeping /delayed flameout hops rather than making a hop tea.

Hop teas are made in water separately to the wort.

I make the hop tea using water not wort so perhaps that's not clear in the guide so I will update it accordingly if that is the case, thanks

There are a few other methods, too, hop backs come to mind, as well as keg hopping. You can also use hop teas for batch priming

Indeed but they are methods I haven't tried yet, not least of which I can't afford a hop back/plate chiller combo and that is one I would like to be able to do at some point as from what I've read its a really good method too

I have the Blichmann hop rocket which I rarely use as it is for hop flowers only and I am now only using pellets. At a homebrew level I can find no equivalent for pellets which is a shame as it does work really well but it gets too costly not to mention space in my freezer to jump between both.
