It is a bit from left field, but when you think about it the smoked malt we traditionally buy to create a smoked beer is just a medium for transferring the sticky elements of smoke into the beer. You can probably get the same results by taking your kettle or FV down to the smoke house prior to your brew.

I'm not sure its the nicest smoked flavour I could have added to my beer, but it is amazingly effective.

@ Andy__ the smoke aspect reminded me slightly of Peat Smoked Malt, nice but not as nice as Rauch Malt's Beech smokiness. Clever stuff still.

Hi dedken, thought I might try this one.. can you clarify for me though (if you can remember!): is the "Carafa#1" the Carafa 'special' #1, i.e. the dehusked one? Cheers

Sorry haven't been on this forum for ages! It was the normal Carafa#1. Doesn't make much difference though tbh.
