ISpindel Digital Hydromenter

Post by Robhaigh » Mon Apr 16, 2018 2:00 pm

Built a few iSpindel digital hydrometers. Offering em up to group before sticking em on eBay.
If you don’t know already the iSpindel is an open source project giving you plans of how to build a digital , WiFi enabled hydrometer / thermometer.
Each one has been tested as working. Will come with full instructions of how to to setup.
All you need to do is...
- set yourself up with a free ‘ubidots’ education account.
- write down the ‘token’ you will get from the free ubidots account.
- unscrew the lid.
- turn it on.
- press the ‘reset’ button until light flashed every 1 second.
- You will now see it as an open WiFi network.
- use your laptop (or phone) to connect to this open WiFi.
- go to your browser and you will see the iSpindel config page.
- type in your home WiFi name and password and press save.
- type in the ubidots token.
- hit save and the iSpindel will reboot and now start pushing data to the ubidots webpage where you can view all the stats, build charts etc etc.

You will also need to calibrate the device. This involves (once you have the ubidots and WiFi setup) popping it in to a quick ferment liquid and writing down the tilt angle and the SG of the liquid at regular intervals. You then pop these values in to a spreadsheet (supplied) and it gives you a Calibration formula to add to the device.
And....
As a bonus... it keeps track of temperature too.

Love mine, use it on all my brews :-)

Loads of info on line about these and as its open source its being developed all the time.

£40 each inc shipping to anywhere UK. (Give me a shout if you are Highlands and Islands as may have to add a bit to cover any way out places!)..
First come first served.

If you have anymore available/spare, then I'd be interested.

Do you have any specs? Battery life etc ?

Thanks.
Fermenting - Nothing
Conditioning - Nothing
Drinking - Tea
Planning - Everything, if only I had the time ... !!

Hi.
Last one sold yesterday.
I could make some more up if there is enough interest. Will add details to the original post.
Thinking £10 deposit and the rest to be paid when I have made them.
Would take a few weeks to order the parts in etc etc

Battery life - it depends on how often you set the refresh interval. In my last brew I accidentally set it to 30 seconds and it lasted a full 2 weeks ( 10 days fermenting and a few days before I could get home to keg). Even then there was plenty of charge left in the device.
I reckon, brewing once a month you would easy get 6 months or more.

40quid is decent. Built my own and it cost me that much! Defo worth adding the wireless charger for a quid off eBay. Less calibration then too.
