Sudden reduction in alkalinity

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Sudden reduction in alkalinity

Post by danwlx » Thu Jan 16, 2014 10:25 pm

Hi all,

Just testing my water prior to brewing and my normal alkalinity figure had suddenly halved. Looking at local water engineering works, there is nothing in the area.

Does anyone else experience such changes? It throws my other figures into doubt, should I halve my planned salt addition (just calcium chloride in this case)?

Cheers
Dan

Yes it's normal . . .give the amount of rain we have had recently . . .it should be expected.. . .Keep your salt addition as planned
