Acronyms

Post by Belto » Tue Feb 13, 2007 11:21 pm

Being new to AG brewing and reading the various forums that are fantastic and really educational, I get lost on the various acronyms that are used and would like to see if possible a dictionary of brewing terminology
e.g. Previous post Bitter_Dave / 4.1AAuus /37IBU // 15mls DLS / 25ml CRS etc and many more on other postings.
What is going on here I would like to know

I do understand the drinking whilst preparing. One the most enjoyable parts to contributing. A word speller would also be most helpfull

DLS = Brupaks Dried Liquor Salts, a mixture of minerals used to treat water prior to brewing.
CRS = Brupaks Carbonate Reducing Solution, a blend of acids used to reduce the "hardness" of water prior to brewing.

Sorry Belto, I was writing down that informetion on CRS/DLS for my own records to be honest. Stuff abouts IBUs is explained by Jim here if you are interested:

You are not alone in the confusion stakes either Belto - I have no idea what people are talking about when they refer to john guest fittings, grey disconnects, and various other equipment

That's a useful glossary btw Andy  .
